Lee Lockett was born and raised in Jacksonville.
Lee Lockett attended Florida State University for his undergraduate studies and graduated in 1992. After graduating from FSU he traveled south to Miami where he was accepted into law school at St. Thomas University School of Law. There Mr. Lockett was elected to the Executive Board of the Moot Court Team and was awarded the Book Award in his Criminal Procedure II class as a third year law student.
After graduation he was offered a position with the State Attorney’s Office for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. As an Assistant State Attorney he was asked to serve as “First Chair” in over 30 jury trials and countless non-jury trials and hearings. In his second year he was promoted to Division Chief in County Court Division E where he supervised all attorneys in that division and made DUI filing decisions. After leaving the State Attorney’s Office, Mr. Lockett served with the Public Defender’s office where he received the prestigious “ROC” Award for trial advocacy.
Lee Lockett has been practicing for nearly 25 years and has in excess of 50 Jury trials to his credit. He is a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The Northeast Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National College Of DUI Defense and the DUI Defense Lawyers Association. He has served on several Florida Bar Committees including the Traffic Court Rules Committee, Grievance Committee, and is currently a member of the Criminal Law Section. Lee Lockett is the co-chair of Florida’s most recognized statewide DUI seminar, Breath, Blood, and Tears, and has served on its faculty for several years lecturing in front of thousands of attorneys about the complexities of DUI defense and has also been asked to present at the Masters of DUI seminar. Lee Lockett also authors the “DUI Notes” column for the Defender Magazine, a statewide publication of the FACDL. Mr. Lockett currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is Past President of the local chapter. He is admitted to practice in all counties and circuits in the state of Florida as well as the United States Federal Court for the Middle District of Florida. Lee Lockett is a member of the Rotary Club at Ponte Vedra Beach and currently sits on the Board as Club Legal Counsel.
Mr. Lockett has been selected as a “Super Lawyer” and has received the highest rating (“Superb”) offered by AVVO, an independent lawyer rating system. Mr. Lockett has also received a rating of “AV Preeminent” 5 of 5, the highest rating from Martindale-Hubbell’s peer review system.
